Gazette Blasts Bartlett

The Gazette criticized Rep. Bartlett's head-in-the-sand ideology as he continues to pound his drum against government interference in the continuing financial crisis. This is what the Gazette said:

"For Bartlett, it was all about ideology. He would have been comfortable in the 18th century Whig Party. He opposes virtually any government interference. He's unwilling to heed his own president's argument that extreme situations require far-reaching and rapid action.

"Think what would have happened if previous legislators had cast those kinds of head-in-the-sand votes. What if Congress had rejected Franklin Roosevelt's emergency bills to stem the panic of the early 1930s and his demands for forceful, sweeping intervention?"

Debates Loom Large

As financial markets continue to plummet, even after the federal bailout, voters are asking if we should hold Roscoe Bartlett accountable for his role in deregulating those same markets during his 16 years in Congress. Two debates will take place on Wednesday, October 8th, where voters can seek answers. The first of these is the Hagerstown Chamber of Commerce Candidates Forum on Wednesday morning. Jennifer and Roscoe will square off again at the Frederick Community College Candidates Debate later that evening. Try to attend these important debates in person, but if you can't get there, watch the FCC debate on Frederick's cable channel 23 which will televise the forum each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 8:00 leading up to the election.

Bartlett's "Senior Moment"

From a Letter to the Editor in The Frederick News Post:

"Later in the meeting he engaged in a discussion with Ryan and had a "senior moment" with a memory lapse. Bartlett: "I forgot what I was going to say" and Ryan bailed Bartlett out of the embarrassing situation. Bartlett's 82 years are showing. This isn't to ridicule the man, I am 73 years old. We old white men need to get out of the way so our young people can carve out their future in the 21st century."

Registration Deadline Approaching

The Great Frederick Fair was a wonderful week of seeing old friends and meeting new ones. The Democratic tent across from the Grandstand entrance and Dairy Bar was buzzing with activity most of the week and I want to thank the Central Committee and all of the volunteers for doing a great job.

Everyone knows that we could not keep Obama supplies in the tent and our campaign delivered about twice as many signs, stickers and materials as the last election. The voter registration table was busy every night with new voters. People are taking charge of their future and they have decided they will not leave it up to chance or long-serving Congressmen and Senators to bring about the progress we need.

If you want to register, and you will be at least 18 by the November 4th election, please make sure you stop by your local Democratic headquarters in each county or go to the Board of Elections in your County Office Building. The registration deadline is October 14, 2008. DON’T MISS THIS IMPORTANT ELECTION!

The Summer Campaign Was Encouraging

Dear friends,

This has been a long and hard campaign. I've driven thousands of miles across 8 counties, eaten dozens of hot dogs, hamburgers and funnel cakes at fairs and festivals, and most importantly, met thousands of citizens across the 6th District.

I just received this message through our website from Tara, and it is because of people like her that I am running this challenging race against Roscoe Bartlett:

<blockqoute>"Just wanted to say Jennifer is one of the nicest ladies I have met. I met her briefly at the Frederick Fair last night while with my two children, husband and mother. I got stickers for my family, and picked up an Obama yard sign and bumper sticker. I also read about Jennifer visiting my town of Hagerstown, and going door to door to meet residents. I wish I could have met her then as well. You have my support Jennifer, and the support of my family. When I was down, because of all the dirty looks and remarks about our Obama signs we walked around with last night, I could always count on walking by the Democratic station and seeing Jennifer smiling and cheering me on. GO Jennifer."

Thank you, Tara. And I hope to see you soon,

P.S. We had a wonderful summer meeting the people of the 6th District and hearing about the issues that are important to them in this crucial election. Click here to view pictures from our recent events.

Roscoe Skips Another Debate

After telling Jennifer on Monday that he would debate her, Roscoe Bartlett skipped the very next candidates debate on Tuesday. The League of Women Voters in Carroll County had scheduled the debate months ago, but Bartlett had refused to say whether he would attend. It's not like he didn't know where or when it was being held. All he had to do was check our events calendar. But Roscoe refused to answer the questions of voters in Carroll County, and refuses to be held accountable for his failures in Congress.

Tonight and tomorrow, Roscoe will have two more opportunities to answer voters' questions. Tonight, the Harford County League of Women Voters will hold their own Congressional Candidates’ Forum, and tomorrow the National Association of Retired Federal Employees will sponsor a debate in Frederick. Will Bartlett continue to spurn voters' questions? How much longer will voters put up with his imperial attitude toward them?

Roscoe's a No-Show

Eight-term incumbent U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett is drawing fire for missing candidate forums and debates as voters get ready to cast their ballots in November.

His absence was the main topic of discussion at a forum sponsored this week by the Professional Masonry Association. Read the rest of this story by clicking here.

A Plan for a Stronger America and 6th District!

Wow! The two conventions paint a clear choice for the next four years - a plan for a stronger America or four more years of the divisive and destructive politics of the Bush years.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden are a great combination of vision, hope and pragmatism. Millions of Americans - not just Democrats -- are excited about turning the page on politics as usual. They want to avoid personal attacks and get to a discussion of real issues.

I need your help right now to make sure we take back the 6th Congressional District in Maryland and can help Obama and Biden deliver results for America. Please take 5 minutes and make a contribution to my campaign by CLICKING HERE NOW!

Your contribution of $ 100 pays for 20 yard signs. $ 50 pays for a 30-second radio spot or 100 direct mail postcards. Whatever you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Jennifer 5, Roscoe 0

Jennifer has agreed to appear at five scheduled candidates forums in the coming months. The League of Women Voters will be sponsoring debates in Carroll and Harford Counties. She has also agreed to appear at candidates forums in Urbana and Frederick, and at the debate sponsored by the Hagerstown Herald Mail.

So far, Roscoe Bartlett has refused to agree to appear at any forum where he might be compelled to answer questions from his constituents, or from debate moderators.
